What is the best Iwata airbrush?

I’m a beginner who has been shopping around for a good Iwata airbrush. I want it to be gravity feed and Double Action. I will be using this for fine art and tattooing. I see that there are Hi-Performance, Hi-Line, Eclipse, Revolution, Custom Micron and Kustom. I am lost as far as what would be the best. Any suggestions?

Wow, fine art and tattooing…that’s a very broad spectrum. As for painting the extremely Fine Detail you can’t find a much better airbrush than the Iwata CM. It’s very expensive and well worth every penny. On the other hand it’s not the best choice if you’re trying to cover a large area. For large areas you’d be better off with the Iwata HP-BCS which will also allow you to perform quick color changes. Since you’re just starting out I’d have to suggest something in between which is the Iwata HP-C+. It’s not my favorite, but it’s still a very nice airbrush which will last you a lifetime, and is considered one of the best all around airbrushes.

Now keep in mind that you have more options than just Iwata. I’d strongly suggest also looking at the Grex, Olympos (my favorite but is very hard to find), and the RichPen. Now if you have some money to spend, are very serious about airbrushing, and want a set of amazing airbrushes that will last you a life time I’d suggest this custom tuned set from Mike Learn:
